A coach with driver in East Flanders: from Ghent, Aalst, Sint-Niklaas or Dendermonde to the sea, the Flemish Ardennes or the capital.
East Flanders lies in the middle of Flanders, and you notice it in the distances: the coast, Antwerp and Brussels are within an hour of almost every town. Ghent is the largest city and a destination in its own right, with a large car-free centre. Aalst, Sint-Niklaas and Dendermonde are where schools, clubs and companies from the area set off.
In the south lie the Flemish Ardennes, with their hills and cobbled roads, a regular destination for a day of cycling or walking with the coach as the starting point. In the north lies the Waasland, up against Antwerp and the Dutch border. Only Ghent has a low-emission zone, inside the city ring road.
Is your town not listed? Choose the larger city nearby: what it says about getting on usually applies around it too.
With a coach in East Flanders
If you are going to Ghent, let the group get off where the city allows it and agree a fixed time to get back on: a coach cannot wait in the car-free centre. If you set off from a village in the Meetjesland or the Flemish Ardennes, give a pick-up point where a long coach can turn round; in narrow village streets that is not always possible.
A day of walking or cycling in the hills is easiest with a coach that drops the group off in one place and picks it up again in another.
