A coach for your ski trip

A ski trip often starts on a Friday evening, with a coach full of bags, ski boots and sleeping bags, and a night of driving towards the Alps. For a school snow trip or a youth movement that is the classic way: arrive in the ski village in the morning, spend the week on the slopes, and set off again on the evening of the last day.

An overnight journey of a few hundred kilometres cannot be driven by one driver without long breaks. That is why two drivers often come along on such a trip, taking turns at the wheel. During the week the coach sometimes stays in the ski village, and sometimes it drives back with the drivers and comes to pick the group up again at the end of the week.

Most Flemish ski trips fall in the spring half-term holiday (krokusvakantie) or the Christmas holidays. In those weeks many groups leave at the same time, and coaches are scarce.

Arranging the coach

Book well in advance, especially for the spring half-term. Say how many people are coming and what luggage has to go: skis and snowboards take up a lot of space, and sometimes a ski box or trailer is needed. Give the address of your accommodation in the ski village; not every mountain road is suitable for a large coach.

In the 2027-2028 school year, the spring half-term falls from Monday 28 February up to and including Sunday 5 March 2028.

Why do two drivers come along on a ski trip?

Because the journey to the Alps is longer than one driver may drive in a day. With two drivers they take turns, and the coach can keep going, at night as well.

When should I request a coach for the spring half-term?

As early as possible. In the spring half-term many Flemish schools and clubs leave for the snow at the same time, and coaches are quickly fully booked.

Will the skis fit in the luggage hold?

For a small group, usually yes. For a full coach with skis, snowboards and suitcases, the coach company often asks for a ski box or a trailer; so say in your request what is coming along.
