When it fits, when it doesn’t

When is a midibus the right choice, and when not?

A midibus is the choice for twenty to thirty-nine people: a school class, a sports team, a club on a day trip. It is shorter than a coach, so it can still get to places where a coach gets stuck, while the luggage can still go under the floor. A midibus is not the right choice for a trip of several days with full suitcases, for a group of more than thirty-nine, or if there must be a toilet on board: how many midibuses have one is counted above. In those cases a coach is better.

What to look out for with a midibus

  1. Thirty-nine is the upper limit. From thirty-five seats there are also small coaches: if your group falls in between, compare both.
  2. A toilet on board is rare in a midibus (see the count above): ask if it matters.
  3. Seven to nine metres long: a residential street or a small car park is often too tight.
  4. Check whether there's a microphone on board if you want to say something along the way.

On many comparison sites, midibuses get lost between the minibus and the coach. We show them as a category of their own, so you don't accidentally choose a vehicle that's too big (and too expensive).

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about hiring a midibus

How much luggage space does a midibus have?

A midibus has a luggage hold under the floor, smaller than a coach’s, as well as the space above the seats. That is enough for a day trip; for a trip of several days with suitcases, a coach has more room.

Is a midibus suitable for a school trip?

Yes, for a class of twenty to thirty-nine people it is the size that fits. Count the supervisors too: they take a seat as well.

Can a midibus also be used for a trip of several days?

Yes. If full suitcases are coming, a coach has more room: it has a larger luggage hold and more often a toilet on board.

Does a midibus have air conditioning?

Most do. Exactly how many is on this page, under "What is actually on board": counted vehicle by vehicle from the fleets.

What is the difference between a midibus and a minibus?

A midibus seats 20 to 39 people, a minibus 8 to 19. Choose based on your exact group size.

Can I hire a midibus and drive it myself?

Only with licence D and a certificate of professional competence (code 95): with licence B you may carry up to 8 people, not counting yourself. On BusOffer.com you hire the midibus with a driver.

What does it cost to hire a midibus?

That depends on the distance, the duration, the day and the month. Fill in your trip and within 1 minute you see what coach companies charge for your trip.
