The Brussels-Capital Region is not a province but a region, with nineteen municipalities. For groups, Brussels is a regular destination: the Atomium, the European institutions, the museums around the Mont des Arts (Kunstberg), and a school visit to Parliament. The other way round, schools, clubs and companies set off from Brussels to the rest of the country.

If you travel by coach in Brussels, two things come into play. The whole region is a low-emission zone, buses and coaches included, and the rules are stricter there than in Antwerp and Ghent. And city traffic is heavy; a group that has to be somewhere on time should allow plenty of time.

      Municipalities in the region

Is your town not listed? Choose the larger city nearby: what it says about getting on usually applies around it too.

      With a coach in Brussels

For every trip to Brussels, say that the coach will be driving in the region, even if it is only a short stop. Since 1 January 2026 a diesel coach there must be Euro 6; if the coach comes from abroad, it usually has to be registered as well. Agree with the coach company on a place where the group can get off safely, especially at a museum or an institution in the centre, and ask the institution itself whether there is a space for coaches.

If you set off in Brussels, preferably choose a pick-up point close to the Ring: that saves time in city traffic.

      Frequently asked questions

Questions about a coach in Brussels

Does the low-emission zone cover all of Brussels?

Yes, the nineteen municipalities of the region. The Ring around Brussels is not part of it.

Does a Dutch coach have to register for Brussels?

Only if it does not meet the rules. Every other foreign vehicle does have to register. Our page on the low-emission zones sets it out precisely, with the source.
