With your group to the Bruges Christmas market

In winter Bruges has two Christmas markets in the centre: the big one on the Markt, below the Belfry, and a smaller one on Simon Stevinplein. They are part of Wintergloed, the city's winter programme, which runs from 20 November 2026 to 31 January 2027. The Christmas markets themselves are there until 3 January 2027.

For a group travelling by coach one rule is decisive: coaches may not enter the centre of Bruges. The group gets off and on at Bargeplein, along the Bargeweg, where there are toilets and shelter if it rains. From there it is about a twenty-minute walk to the Markt.

On Friday and Saturday the markets stay open until half past eleven at night, on other days until ten. If you want to see the lights and still not be home too late, plan the return trip on a weekday shortly after dark.

The Christmas markets

The Christmas markets are open from 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, on the Markt and on Simon Stevinplein.
Sunday to Thursday from 11:00 to 22:00, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 to 23:30.
On New Year's Eve they are open until 03:00.

By coach to Bruges

Coaches are not allowed in the city centre; they park on the coach car park at Kanaaleiland, along the Bargeweg.
Groups get off and on at the reserved drop-off zone at Bargeplein, with toilets and shelter.
From Bargeplein it is a 20-minute walk to the Markt.
A coach carrying visitors with reduced mobility may exceptionally enter the centre with prior permission from the police.

Arranging the coach

Agree a fixed time with the driver at Bargeplein, for getting off and for getting back on; in between, the coach parks on the coach car park at Kanaaleiland. Allow twenty minutes' walk to the Markt, and a little more for anyone who is not steady on their feet. If guests with a disability are travelling, the police can give permission in advance to come closer to the centre; apply well in advance.
